Abstract

The article considers parents’ coping strategies as individual ways of overcoming problematic situations and stressful influences related to adolescent upbringing. Foreign and domestic researches on the problem of coping behavior of the individual, as well as the problem of parental upbringing in adolescence have been studied. The main approaches to the study of coping problem have been analyzed: ego-oriented, dispositional, dynamic. According to the results of theoretical research, the developed model of the phenomenon of coping is presented, which includes the main categorical and typological positions on its understanding: the structure of the coping process, factors and coping resources, as well as the main functions of coping behavior. A brief overview of psychological research on the problem of improving the effectiveness of coping strategies and the peculiarities of their formation among various target groups, including teachers is introduced. A brief analysis of the results of an empirical study of individual ways of parents to overcome stressful situations related to the upbringing of adolescents and their individual psychological characteristics (reflexivity, empathy, level of self-regulation, values and type of parental attitude) is presented. The interrelationship between the peculiarities of parental coping strategies and their individual psychological properties are revealed. The development program of effective parent coping strategies is presented. The program consists of 4 modules containing 11 classes. The expediency of the program is substantiated and confirmed by the results of the formative experiment. It was stated that improving the effectiveness of parental coping strategies through socio-psychological training is possible through the development of skills of reflection, empathy, self-regulation, working with parents’ values, as well as expanding the repertoire of effective parenting coping strategies in educating adolescents.
