Political development and political stability, international and national security depends on society's ability to recognize the real and the imaginary. The concept of "post-truth" is such an interpretation of phenomena / relations / processes (including socio-political) that does not correspond to reality or partially distorts it. The post-truth in political life indicates a decrease in attention to facts when defining strategies, a certain “devaluation” of primary sources when making political decisions, a crisis of confidence on the way to the development of democracy, peace, a secure world. It is an instrument of political struggle and modern wars. The contradictory meaning of the concept requires a political science understanding. This problem as a part of the categorical apparatus of political science, socio-political slang, and security challenges is analyzed.
Interdisciplinary approaches and methods are used. Political dictionaries and encyclopedias, official documents, materials of popular sites, "ratings" of frequently used words are analyzed. A retrospective analysis, in particular to Soviet history, made it possible to elucidate certain factors of widespread deformations in society's understanding of the phenomenon of truth. Post-truth politics is characterized as the manipulation of basic knowledge of history and politics, as simplification, strengthening the emotional components of political ideologies. It is a threat to understanding, effective exchange of political information, political socialization. It is a test of community literacy and endurance. There aren`t talks about the introduction of a new scientific concept, but focuses on the responsibility of the intellectual environment to the post-truthful circumstances of our time.
