Creativity of Ukrainian National Culture as a Response to Today'sChallenges

Abstract

The article highlights the creativity of Ukrainian national culture as an instrument of the Ukrainian people's resilience in times of trial, points out the ability of any national culture to promote the development of individual creativity, provided that national culture becomes the basis of a philosophy of life and is thoroughly studied in educational institutions at all levels. It also briefly outlines the problem of Ukrainians, defined as "what difference" (or refusal to choose) as a consequence of colonial and totalitarian trauma caused by repressions and famines-genocides. The names of the sixties (thanks to whom our national culture was preserved) and contemporary artists are named, who in their work are guided by the affirmation of their identity due to upbringing on national culture and national self-consciousness. Some types of Ukrainian national-spiritual achievements and consumer cultural heritage are considered. This was done to demonstrate how one or another type of national heritage can influence the consciousness of a young person and awaken them to creative thinking through a thorough knowledge of their national culture. The phenomenon of Ukrainian folk toys is separately considered as an example of a creative phenomenon of Ukrainian consumer culture, as well as paremias (Ukrainian proverbs and sayings), which were usually used in everyday communication and conveyed lived experience and were used in folk pedagogy. The article provides an example of an updated theatrical production of Hoffmann's "The Nutcracker" as a rethinking of the colonial musical heritage by involving Ukrainian creative youth, showing how this heritage can be reinterpreted and our national repertoire developed, enabling Ukrainian diplomacy to represent our culture in the world.
