Abstract

The article analyzes factual material from the history of Ukrainian ballet and choreographic education and identifies the features of the national choreographic art of the first third of the 20th century. The application of systemic and cultural approaches made it possible to reveal the specifics of the formation of the art of Ukrainian classical dance and choreographic education in the context of the course of socio-cultural processes of the specified period. The role of Polish dancers in the formation of classical dance in Ukraine is defined. The experiments of P. Virskyi and M. Bolotov in the field of combining the vocabulary of folk dance with classical ballet are characterized. The authors of the article highlight the achievements of the dancers of the Odesa Opera and Ballet Theater, who acted as bold experimenters of the art of dance and determined the ways of its development for the future. It is concluded that the direction of the development of national ballet and choreographic education was directly determined by the course of social processes of the first third of the 20th century, and the factors that inhibited their development are also indicated.
