The article examines adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies as factors influencing the psycho-emotional recovery of military personnel after participating in combat operations. The relevance of the study stems from the high intensity of combat stress, which leads to significant psycho-emotional strain and disruption of individual adaptive capacities, thereby necessitating the investigation of psychological recovery mechanisms in combatants. The study involved 70 military personnel divided into two groups: an experimental group (combat participants) and a control group (military personnel without combat experience). The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), the Differential Emotions Scale, and the Brief COPE questionnaire were used to assess psycho-emotional state. The findings revealed that military personnel with combat experience displayed a significantly poorer psycho-emotional state compared to the control group. In particular, they showed substantially higher levels of anxiety (60% high level versus 10% in the control group) and a higher prevalence of depressive symptoms (30% high level versus 6.6%). A significant decrease in the Positive Emotions Index (PEI) (21.9±2.6 points versus 32.9±2.9 in the control group) was identified, accompanied by an increase in the Acute Negative Emotions Index (ANEI) (31.4±3.1 versus 22.3±2.7) and the Anxiety-Depressive Emotions Index (ADEI) (27.6±3.0 versus 18.1±2.4) among military personnel after combat operations compared to those without combat experience. The study demonstrated that a considerable proportion of military personnel after combat exposure predominantly used maladaptive coping strategies, including avoidance of problem situations, emotional responding, and self-blame, whereas adaptive strategies were employed to a lesser extent. The results obtained confirm a correlation between the nature of coping behavior and the effectiveness of psycho-emotional recovery in military personnel, which is of considerable importance for the development of psychological support, psychocorrection, and rehabilitation programs for combatants after completing combat missions.
